Return line filters are fabricated to work as filters for tank-top mounting, tank-inside mounting and inline mounting applications. They’re commonly used in hydraulic systems, as they provide a very reliable and cost-effective way of filtering any contaminants within the operating fluid inside the system that flows back to the reservoir from the hydraulic system. This is done to ensure that these contaminants do not get inside the system’s tank.
What is a Return Line Filter in a Hydraulic System?
Return line filters often are the only form of protection that a hydraulic system receives against the contaminants commonly found in operating fluid. Made out of plastic, aluminium or steel, return line filters can be used with hydraulic systems that are working with operating pressures of up to 25 bars. They’re made to filter out any contaminants inside operating fluid and ensure that the fluid that’s going back to the reservoir is completely clean as per the stipulated ISO4406 contamination level regulations. This process also cleans all of the returning hydraulic fluid prior to being led back into the tank.
Where Should Filters Be Placed in a Hydraulic System?
Return line filters can be placed either in-line or inside the reservoir. They must be horizontally installed, flexibly mounted, and not tightly fixed onto the floor or used as a form of pipe support. Return line filters are positioned at the end of the return line and are made to work as line filters, tank attachment filters located on the tank itself, and tank integrated filters located inside the tank.
