Municipal vehicles are one of TTControl’s focus areas, with many different applications implemented in the field with the company’s software.
Applications are typically challenging as they operate in public areas from street-cleaning and firefighting to road sweepers and garbage trucks.
As a result, functional safety is often an important consideration in these applications.
“OEMs of municipal vehicles are confronted with vibrations and aggressive environments, combined with the need to guarantee the highest safety levels,” highlights a HYDAC spokesperson.
“There are in fact a lot of different external factors that might intervene in the state, situation and functionality of mobile machinery.”
Controllers with multitude of inputs and outputs
To assist OEMs and users, TTControl offers controllers with a multitude of inputs and outputs that can be flexibly configured. This means that most applications can be controlled with a cost-efficient combination of ECUs and/or I/O modules.
Sometimes a solution that is built around a high-performance master controller like TTC 580 or the operator interface eVision² is ideal whereas in other cases a more distributed approach with several TTC 90 or TTC 60 is chosen if functional safety is not required.
Customers benefit from a flexible, modular architecture that is easy to implement across whole vehicle families, ie premium vehicles use more of TTControl’s electronics while reusing programs developed for related products that are more basic.
Waste collection vehicles
Spanish manufacturer Grupo Ferruz chose TTControl and HYDAC as the electronic provider for its sideload waste compactor truck.
Waste collection is an especially crucial and dangerous area to work in.
TTControl’s functional safety expertise and competence convinced Grupo Ferruz to equip its side load waste trucks with TTControl’s safety certified controllers and displays.
In addition to the TTC 580, two seven-inch eVision² displays have been integrated into the vehicle’s cabin for operation monitoring and display of various machinery parameters.
Automation imminent in waste collection
Automation will soon be a key aspect in waste collection, a HYDAC spokesperson says.
“Personnel costs are increasing while in parallel safety requirement are constantly rising. Thanks to automation, possible human errors and mechanical, hydraulic, or even electronic failures, can be avoided.
Multifunctional vehicles
Germany’s Ladog, well known for its efficient narrow-gauge vehicles, wanted to use a future-proof direct drive in one of its product families.
TTControl and HYDAC built a solution for Lapdog based on the TUeV-certified TTC 90.
Starting with a comprehensive hazard and risk analysis, the joint team took an innovative concept from testing with hardware in the loop to final software implementation.
