HYDAC supports sustainability through the development of components, systems, and services that preserve natural resources, are cost-efficient, and support human and natural environments.
“For our industry sustainability is the awareness of energy utilisation, resources, and consumption,” a HYDAC spokesperson says.
“Frequently we see filters changed prematurely, oil changed needlessly, systems running on incorrect configurations that could be energy-optimised, and legacy systems that require overhauls.

The spokesperson explains that it is control of contaminating sources within a machine, combined with the characteristics of the fluid, that allows the work required by the system to be carried out effectively.
Conversely, not controlling this aspect adequately can result in problems of malfunction, inefficiency, and ultimately, environmental unsustainability.
“Within our portfolio, we already have several technologies available for our customers and partners to use from extending the lifetime of fluids and fluid conditioning to tank size reduction,” the spokesperson comments.
HYDAC’s five-step sustainability guide
HYDACs five-step sustainability guide translates intentions into a concise action plan. The steps are as follows:
- Identify the status quo and your environmental impact by understanding your operating condition and system wear as well as use of consumables such as filters and fluids.
- Identify low hanging fruits. Do you have systems with high fluid consumption and premature breakdowns? Use fluid analysis as a cheap tool to identify possibilities for improvement.
- Find solutions and technologies to overcome identified issues. The condition of your fluid can be increased from correct filtration technologies, and contaminated fluids can often be reconditioned to be fit for use. Do not throw away fluids before determining whether they can still be used.
- Keep it simple and test assumptions. Find one or two cases where you can improve the condition of your system and validate the impact. Often, hire equipment can be a good tool to prove a concept.
- Measure and validate impact continuously, which can help visualise progress.
Partnerships way to go
Sustainable solutions need to be developed within partnerships, the spokesperson emphasises.
This is already prevalent such as in Rio Tinto signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric to develop a circular and sustainable market ecosystem for both companies and their customers.
